We are Portland’s newest and most authentic source for African drums, rhythm instruments, music, clothing, artwork, and masks. Come in to feel and hear these beautiful instruments which are made the same way today as they have been for centuries. Our superb hand crafted and personally chosen drums and traditional rhythm instruments are imported directly from Africa. Most of our drums have been hand-selected by owner Nii Ardey Allotey from professional carvers in Ghana that he has met throughout his career as a professional drummer and dancer. At Anansi Beat we carry handmade drums from Ghana and other countries. We also offer beautiful art, clothing, and masks as well as CDs and cassettes of all kinds of African and ethnic music including original recordings by owner Nii Ardey Allotey. We’re proud to offer a range of beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes in African drumming and dancing, all taught by native Ghanian Nii Ardey Allotey.
