Our story began with a dream and a love for food that brings people together. Decades ago, our family journeyed across oceans before finding a true home here in Portland, Oregon — a city known for its rain, its warmth, and its love of great food. Over the years, we have traveled, studied, and worked across the world, tasting new flavors and learning the art of combining them. No matter where life took us, one thing never changed: our passion for fresh, vibrant, island-inspired cooking. That passion found its home at Hawaiian Express — a place where Portland's laid-back spirit meets the comforting flavors of the islands. We start with what we know best — freshness. Our Signature Poke Bowls feature wild-caught Ahi tuna and Pacific salmon, marinated in our house shoyu blend, kissed with sesame and lime, then layered over rice or greens and topped with creamy avocado, crunchy onions, and our spicy aioli. Every plate comes with steamed rice and your choice of sides — our signature Hawaiian-style macaroni salad (creamy, comforting, and made just right) or a fresh option such as avocado, coleslaw salad, pineapple salad, seaweed salad, or edamame.
